Group seeks individuals, families to assist international students

Making the adjustment to college life can be tough on any student, especially if you're an international student. But Friends of International Students is working to make sure those students have the support they need during their college years at Northwest Missouri State University.

Friends of International Students (FIS) matches Northwest students from outside the United States with local residents who offer support to the students as they adjust to their new home. FIS families promote friendship and understanding among people of different nationalities.

FIS is in need of families and individuals interested in becoming a friend to one of the more than 300 international students expected to attend Northwest this fall. Members do not have to be University employees.

Friends and students are encouraged to make contact at least once a month during their year-long commitment to the program. Friends and students may spend as much or as little time together as their schedules allow.

Families or individuals interested in becoming a friend should complete an application by clicking here. For more information, contact Jeaneth Puriel, FIS president and coordinator of study abroad at Northwest, at or 660.562.1367.
