The regional Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) at Northwest Missouri State University has announced the promotion of Rebecca Evans as its director, effective July 1.

Evans joined the Northwest SBTDC in 2007 to serve as director of its St. Joseph branch and has served as associate regional director for the SBTDC since August 2013. Evans is taking the place of Larry Lee who has served as regional director of the SBTDC. Lee will remain as director of Northwest's Dean L Hubbard Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

“Rebecca is an efficiency and productivity professional with a decade of experience utilizing lean methods to successfully lead businesses through process improvement, fiscal management and attainment of their annual goals through strategic planning and implementation,” Lee said.

The SBTDC is focused on strengthening the business competitiveness of Missouri’s businesses. As regional director, Evans will be responsible for providing leadership, expertise and training to private sector business clients with guidance for development of their companies. She also will provide leadership and direction for the operations of the centers and their local counselors in the region.

Evans is a certified business coach, certified as a Six Sigma Green Belt in process improvement, a Certified Economic Development Finance Professional, and was on the Board of Examiners in 2013 for the Missouri Quality Awards (MQA) at the Excellence in Missouri Foundation.

She also was awarded the Missouri State Star award in 2012 for her outstanding performance in business development and she is a member of several boards in the region.

Evans has a master’s degree from Missouri State University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana Tech University.

“I'm excited to step into the regional director role with Northwest’s SBTDC,” Evans said. “The last seven years of working with business owners and budding entrepreneurs has shown me there is a wealth of knowledge, innovation, creativity and desire from the people who live in our region to start and grow businesses. I look forward to continuing to assist our regional businesses for the betterment of all of our communities.”

The Northwest SBTDC is sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration and covers 17 counties spanning from Atchison County, south to Platte County and east to Livingston County. It consists of three offices with a regional office at the CIE on the Northwest campus in Maryville and additional offices in Chillicothe and St. Joseph.
