Northwest Up ‘til Dawn chapter to sponsor annual Big Event

Northwest Missouri State University’s Up ‘til Dawn chapter will sponsor its annual Big Event to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.

The Eighth Annual Up ‘til Dawn Big Event is 11:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, to 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in Lamkin Activity Center. The event is open to the public.

Participating teams will have the opportunity to be involved in many activities throughout the night, including sporting events, games and entertainment. Food will be provided as well.

In addition to the activities, attendees will hear stories of St. Jude and learn about the children and families the hospital works hard to help.

To participate in the event, students must form six-person teams, and each participant must raise $100 on behalf of St. Jude prior to the Big Event. To register a team for this year’s Big Event visit www.stjude.org/utd.

Last year, Northwest, along with Up ‘til Dawn, raised more than $15,250, which helped offset the high operating costs for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Money raised from the Big Event will directly aid St. Jude patients.

Up 'til Dawn is part of a national philanthropy involving students at more than 200 colleges and universities. Students honor patients of St. Jude who bravely fight cancer. With money raised by the Northwest chapter, University students help advance the mission of finding cures and saving children, so St. Jude patients can grow up and go to college, too.

Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas, St. Jude is a major health care center for children and is funded almost entirely through private donations. Both a treatment center and research facility, the hospital is traditionally associated with the fight against pediatric cancer. In recent years, however, St. Jude scientists and physicians also have focused on genetic disorders and the development of a vaccine for pediatric AIDS.
