Northwest Missouri State ended its 2013 Homecoming celebration with the awards ceremony announcing winners of competitions throughout the week.

Northwest celebrated its Homecoming week, “Rolling out the ‘90s,” Oct. 20 through Oct. 27, with a variety of activities, including traditions such as the office decorating contest, Variety Show, 5K Run/Walk, International Flag-Raising Ceremony, parade and the Homecoming game, which featured Northwest defeating Missouri Southern, 43-7. The University also welcomed the class of 1963 during its annual Golden Years Society Reunion at the Northwest Alumni House.

During Thursday’s performance of the variety show, Lucas Clark and Bailey Hoerning were named Northwest’s Homecoming king and queen for 2013. Clark is a senior organizational communications major from Odessa, Mo., and Hoerning is a senior elementary and K-12 special education major from Omaha, Neb.

During the University’s seventh annual Homecoming Canned Art Contest Oct. 21, students and organizations assembled displays of perishable food items to be donated to the Maryville Ministry Center. Northwest collected about 2,500 pounds of canned food that was donated after the contest.

Additionally, the Department of Natural Sciences took first place in the office decorating contest for the second consecutive year. The Office of Financial Assistance earned second place and Facility Services received third place.

The 2013 Homecoming Executive Board included Co-Chairs Emma Clark and Crissy Ferguson and Secretary MacKenzie Magwire.
