Northwest Missouri State University welcomes the Grammy-winning Parker Quartet to campus to perform as the next installment in its 2012-13 Encore performance series.
The Parker Quartet, accompanied by famous pianist Shai Wosner, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 11, in the Mary Linn Auditorium at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts.
Known for its groundbreaking shows for non-traditional audiences, the Parker Quartet began touring professionally in 2002. Since then, they have won prestigious titles at the Concert Artists Guild Competition and the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition. They also received the Cleveland Quartet Award for their 2009-11 seasons.
Northwest Director of Campus Activities Angel McAdams-Prescott said members of the Northwest community will gain a new appreciation for the arts by attending.
“People shouldn’t be afraid of the arts or assume that it’s not for them,” McAdams-Prescott said. “By attending Encore events, individuals are exposed to a whole new way to view the arts. Particularly in Maryville, where the cost to attend is greatly reduced compared to our bigger city neighbors.”
The final performance in Northwest’s “Discover the Arts” Encore series will be poetic and musical duo Dr. Bill Trowbridge and Mr. Bob Walkenhorst Thursday, April 11. Tickets for that performance are available for patron donors Tuesday, March 5, and for general public Tuesday, March 12.
All tickets may be purchased at the Student Services Center on the first floor of the Administration Building from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets are free for Northwest students, $13 for children and $23 for adults.
