Carter Gillespie, Andrew Nordbye place at fishing tournament

Northwest fishing club members Carter Gillespie and Andrew Nordbye placed 20 out of 40 teams at the Central Conference FLW College Fishing Tournament March 11 at Table Rock Lake.

Carter Gillespie and Andrew Nordbye, members of the Northwest Missouri State University fishing club, participated in the Central Conference FLW College Fishing Tournament March 11 at Table Rock Lake.

Representing Northwest, Gillespie and Nordbye placed 20 out of 40 college teams that participated in the tournament. They caught two bass, weighing a total of six pounds.

Carter is a junior agricultural business major from New Hampton. Nordbye is a freshman marketing and business management major from St. Joseph.

Since its founding three years ago, the Northwest Fishing Club has grown to more than 50 members. The goal of the fishing club is to bring together students who share a common interest of fishing, organize and compete in collegiate-level events and fishing tournaments, and become better fishermen overall.

The club is advised by Jon Gustafson, instructor in the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
