Regional bands set to rock on April 3 for fan votes, radio airtime

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Six bands from throughout the region will vie for votes and the right to have their music played on X106 during the radio station's "Battle of the Bands" at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, April 3.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the show will begin at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free and seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The concert will showcase bands playing alternative rock, indie, rock 'n' roll and heavy rock.

Concert-goers will have chances to vote for their favorite bands along with a panel of three judges consisting of Imaging Director James Berry, mass communications instructor Matt Rouch and University Police Director Clarence Green. The winning band will receive a cash prize along with the right to have its music played on X106 for the entire fall trimester.

X106 Production Director Jeremy Werner said the radio station has hopes of making the battle an annual event.

"It's free and it'll be a great time, but how often do you get to enjoy live music in Maryville and especially six bands?" Werner said. "How often do you get to select a band or piece of music that gets played for an entire semester on a radio station? This 'Battle of the Bands' really brings something to Maryville that's not prevalent here - live local music."
