Data Analyst

Career Certificate Training Program

Description

The self-paced online Data Analyst Career Certificate Program provides you with a university career certificate and the knowledge, practical experience, competency and confidence to qualify for high-paying data analyst jobs.

Data analysts are professionals who collect, process and perform analyses on enterprises’ huge quantities of information to help them make better and faster business decisions. Virtually all enterprises have now reached “data overload” and need data analysts to help them make sense of massive amounts of information. According to Indeed Inc., currently there are more than 74,000 data analyst job openings in the United States, and data analysts can earn up to nearly $90,000 annually.

This program is suitable for anyone seeking to enhance their career or looking for a new career in a high-demand occupation. Participants will learn how to do it all in data analytics: from cleaning data to presenting it in visual form, performing qualitative and quantitative analysis of data, interpreting data and making predictions.

All interested trainees should contact an intake specialist prior to enrolling to complete an intake assessment. This interview helps the team of subject matter experts understand your commitment, aspirations and work habits to ensure success in the program.

Request For Intake Assessment

This online program utilizes active, self-paced, Learn-By-Doing training. This innovative approach provides bite-sized lessons, requiring participants to show they have mastered each concept by completing exercises before moving on to the next module. Trainees can work through each section at their own pace and have six months to complete each course.

This competency-based approach builds knowledge as well as practical experience, both of which are needed to qualify for most data analyst job openings. Trainees who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of completion from Northwest Missouri State University and will walk away with the professional portfolio necessary to demonstrate ability and qualify for job openings.

As trainees proceed through the interactive courses, subject-matter experts are available to provide timely help as needed. These experts also will be proactive in reaching out to trainees at regular intervals during their training to discuss progress and provide assistance.

Program Pre-requisites

Trainees should be comfortable with basic math and algebra operations, number systems and data functions (such as average and sum) prior to beginning the program. A programming background shortens the time required to complete the training but is not required.

All interested trainees should contact an intake specialist prior to enrolling to complete an intake assessment. This interview helps the team of subject matter experts understand your commitment, aspirations and work habits to ensure success in the program.

Participation in the program requires a personal computer, high-speed internet access and an email address.

Program Components

SQL Fundamentals (80 hours)

Training begins with this course, where you will learn about data and databases, with emphasis on Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMSs), which are used in virtually all industries and organizations to store data about employees, products, services, inventory, financial transactions, etc. You will learn how a RDBMS works, how to make basic queries, use aggregate functions, create and manage tables, and how to use basic joins.

Advanced SQL (80 hours)

In a real company setting, RDBMSs tend to be large, complex and messy (they often contain damaged and/or incomplete data). To successfully handle such databases, training continues with this course, which teaches you how to use conditional expressions; work with text including search-and-replace operations, formulate subqueries and advanced joins; and how to use SQL functions.

Introduction to Computer Programming (optional 80 hours)

If you have little or no prior experience in computer programming, you will take this course next. This powerful visual course will transform the way you think. In computer programming, correct algorithmic (computational) thinking is far more important than the knowledge of a particular programming language. This course will unlock your computer programming potential, and make it much easier for you to learn Python and other programming languages in the future.

Introduction to Python for Data Science (80 hours)

The next part of the program includes Python programming. Python is a step up from SQL. If you have sufficient prior experience in computer programming, you will skip Introduction to Computer Programming and progress directly to this course, which is an introductory Python programming course. You will learn in a hands-on fashion by solving programming tasks of gradually increasing complexity, ranging from simple calculations, working with text strings, loops, conditions, and variables, to file operations and data visualization.

Predictive Data Analytics with Python (80 hours)

In this final course you will learn how to use Python and its powerful free libraries including Pandas, Numpy, Scipy, Matplotlib, Seaborn, and Statsmodels to read data from files, clean data, present data in visual form, perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of data, interpret data, and make predictions. At the end of this course, you will complete a Capstone Project under the supervision of a senior NCLab Data Analytics instructor in order to graduate and obtain your Career Certificate.
