Job Duties

POSITION SUMMARY: The Graduate Housing Assistant is responsible for hall and student management of graduate housing.


  1. GHA will work 10 hours per week on the tasks below.
  2. Each GHA will hold 5 ‘office’ hours per week at the front desk of the building.
    1. Sort mail, enter packages in system and distribute
    2. Develop cleaning schedules for kitchen, laundry room, and lounges.
    3. Lock-outs as needed.
    4. Assist residents with questions, work orders, connections to resources etc.
    5. Promote at least 1 event per month for residents to attend together (i.e. sporting event, distinguished lecturer, SAC events etc. – covered by 3 GHAs so each one is assigned a month.
    6. Ensure cleaning supplies are available. Complete a work order if additional supplies are needed.
    7. Post signs as needed.
  3. One set of rounds in the building each day – covered by 3 GHAs, so every 3rd
    1. Check on cleaning in kitchen, and common spaces (per cleaning schedule), address issue with assigned cleaners if needed. Recheck if needed.
    2. Check all common areas including laundry room, floor and main lounges, hallways, and restrooms to insure they are being kept in clean and in working condition.
      1. Submit work orders as needed.
      2. Address behaviors with residents as needed.
    3. Address and document any policy violations
    4. Post signs as needed
    5. Check that all safety regulations are being met.
  4. Check on occupancy of rooms 3 times per week and document violations – covered by 3 GHAs.
  5. Facilitate the check in and check out of students when a new contract starts or a contract ends.
  6. GHA will be expected to follow all residential life processes and policies for front desk services and other procedures outlined for this position.
  7. GHA will abide by all university policies.
  8. Follow emergency evacuation procedures and assist students with evacuations.
  9. Perform additional assigned tasks as delegated.


WORKING CONDITIONS: Live-on position, some evenings and weekends required

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sedentary and physical work requiring the ability to lift and move 25 pounds on occasion. Ability to observe and interpret printed notices, policy violations, and other documents. Ability to observe and evaluate aural cues for policy violation, fire alarm response and a person yelling for immediate assistance. Ability to communicate in English effectively both orally and in print. Ability to evacuate residents from any residence hall without the use of an elevator. Fire evacuation may occasionally include traversing all of the flights of stairs more than one time without the use of an elevator.

Must life in North Complex Grad Housing to be eligible         

Education: In graduate program at Northwest Missouri State University

Experience: Experience working building or student management     

Skills: Skills in interpersonal communications, conflict resolution, the ability to follow directions and policies
