Welcome | Involvement | Local Vendors

For new Greek parents, as your student makes the transition from high school to college, the Greek community at Northwest Missouri State University can provide a valuable network of support. When your son or daughter joins a Greek chapter they will gain scholastic support from chapter members, opportunities for campus and chapter leadership, community service and volunteer experience, networking relationships with alumni and close friendships with chapter members.

For current Greek parents, you know first-hand the tremendous opportunities that your student has been afforded by being a Northwest Greek and the positive impact that the Northwest Greek community has had on your student.

Please visit this website on a regular basis in order to keep up-to-date on Northwest Greek happenings.

For additional information about Northwest, visit our Parents site.

Parents are playing an increasingly larger role in the life of fraternities and sororities. For many students, joining a Greek organization involves support from their family. When a student joins a Greek organization, they are making a commitment to that chapter, and often times that commitment is one that will shape and mold their character for years to come. Because becoming Greek will play such a large role in students' lives, it is easy to see why parents invest their support. There are many ways that you as a parent can get involved. Below is a list of possible ways to do so.

Parent/Alumni Club

This is a way to get a better idea of what a Greek organization stands for. It will also allow you to take an active role in advising the direction of the chapter. Time commitment varies chapter to chapter, so check with your son or daughter's chapter to find out what is available here and what the commitments are.

Hosting a Parents Get Together

By hosting a get-together, you will have the opportunity to meet other Greek parents and their students from all across the Northwest community. This is a great way to connect with other parents socially.

Write a letter to the Parents of Prospective Members

This is a good way to share your experience with the parents of new members. It is also a nice way to share your fantastic experiences with others.

Participate in Parent's Day, Mom's Day or Dad's Day

Most chapters will host special programming and events during a designated "Parent's Weekend". Additionally, many will host events during Northwest's Family Weekend. Participating in these is not only a good way to get to know the chapter and your student's fraternity or sorority members, but to also show support for Northwest.

Plan a Parent/Student Community Service Event

Service to the community is a great way to bring our Greek community together and to help others. Because Greek organizations are founded on the principle of service to others, it is fitting that you participate in the chapter's community service. It is a nice way to interact with the members of the chapter and show support for the activities they are doing!
