2018 Four-State Honor Music Festival

Saturday, January 20, 2018

The Four-State Honor Music Festival provides an outstanding learning experience for area students. While all students will benefit from the opportunity, those with strong musical backgrounds will find it especially rewarding.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grade levels are eligible to participate in the Honor Festival?

Grades 9 – 12

Can students participate in both the Honor Band and the Honor Choir?

Unfortunately, no. The overlapping rehearsal schedule does not allow for students’ participation in both ensembles.

How are students selected for participation?

Band and choir directors are requested to nominate their respective programs’ most deserving students for participation in the Four-State Honor Festival. Students’ previous accomplishments (level of successful participation at the regional and state level), balance of instrumentation or voice parts, and the priority ratings of directors are all factors that are considered.

What if a student has a known conflict on the date of the event?

Students with known conflicts should not be nominated by their respective directors.

Is there a fee to nominate students for the Honor Festival?

No.

Is there a fee to participate in the Honor Festival?

Yes. There will be a fee of $10.00 for each student selected for one of the Honor Festival Ensembles. This non-refundable fee will be due (CHECKS ONLY) as soon as possible after selection notification.

There has never been a fee in the past for students’ participation in the Four-State Honor Festival. Why has this changed?

All funding for this event in the past has been provided internally by the University. However, due to severe budget restraints campus-wide, this year, we are initiating a fee of $10.00 per participant in an effort to defray costs (but still host the event). Our hope is that this nominal fee will not deter students’ participation in one of the longest running events of its kind in the four-state area.

How can payment for selected Honor Festival participants be submitted?

Checks should be payable to Northwest Four-State Honor Festival 2018, and be sent to the following address:

Four-State Honor Festival 2018
Fine Arts Building
800 University Avenue
Maryville, MO 64468

Can parents and others attend the performance(s)?

ABSOLUTELY, in fact they are encouraged to do so! There is no charge for audience members…this is a FREE concert, open to the general public!
