Scholarships for Transfer Students

Admission-based Transfer Scholarships (No Application Needed)

No separate scholarship application is required. Scholarship level is determined by the transfer GPA and transferable credit hours provided on the college transcript(s) with admission application. Admission deadline for fall awards is May 1.

Transfer applicants with fewer than 24 transferable hours and meeting the standard admission requirements may be eligible for freshman scholarships. View freshman scholarship criteria »

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Requirements:

  • Student must be a member of Phi Theta Kappa
  • 42 transferable credit hours completed by deadline of application
  • 3.50 cumulative GPA in transfer

Transfer Distinguished Scholarship

Requirements:

  • First-time student at Northwest
  • 24 transferable credit hours completed by start date
  • 3.50-4.00 cumulative GPA in transfer

Requirements:

  • First-time student at Northwest
  • 24 transferable credit hours completed by start date
  • 3.30-3.49 cumulative GPA in transfer

Bearcat Advantage (for non-Missouri residents entering fall 2024 and later)

Requirements:

  • First-time student at Northwest
  • 24 transferable credit hours completed by start date
  • 2.75 cumulative GPA in transfer
  • Non-Missouri resident

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • Estimate - $8,052 (100% waiver of out-of-state tuition based on 30 credit hours for fall/spring semesters)

Bearcat Advantage (for non-Missouri residents entering summer 2024 and earlier)

Requirements:

  • First-time student at Northwest
  • 24 transferable credit hours completed by start date
  • 3.00 cumulative GPA in transfer
  • Non-Missouri resident

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • Estimate - $7,584 (100% waiver of out-of-state tuition based on 30 credit hours for fall/spring semesters)

Northwest Pathways Scholarship (for students entering fall 2024 and later)

The Northwest Pathways Scholarship is a $1,500 annual award provided to entering first generation transfers with at least a 2.75 transfer GPA who graduated from select high schools in a four-state region. 

Requirements:

  • First-time transfer
  • 24 transferable credit hours completed by start date
  • First generation student1
  • Minimum 2.75 transfer GPA
  • Graduate from select high schools2 in Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas

1Northwest defines first-generation students as those whose parents did not finish a bachelor’s degree.

Award Amount:

  • $1,500 (fall/spring)
  • May receive in addition to other Northwest automatic scholarships

Multicultural Scholarship (for students entering fall 2023 and earlier)

Requirements:

  • First-time student at Northwest
  • 24 transferable credit hours completed by start date
  • 3.00 cumulative GPA

Award Amount (fall/spring):

  • $1,000

Eligibility:

  • American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, U.S. citizen or graduate from eligible high school. Non-immigrant students are not eligible. Northwest Foundation and Major-Specific Scholarships

To be considered for a variety of scholarships awarded by individual campus departments, students are encouraged to complete the Standard Scholarship application each year. These scholarships are funded by our Northwest Foundation, departments, and private donors. The Standard Scholarship Application is available September 1 through February 1, award decisions are made during the month of February, and awarded scholarships are distributed the following academic year. Please note, only for the 2024-25 aid year, this submission deadline is being extended to April 1, 2024. Students can complete the application by logging into to CatPAWS, click the Student tab, and then select the Standard Scholarship Application box.
