Freshmen and Transfer Students' Timeline

September

  • Attend a Financial Aid Night or Northwest Night at an area high school
  • Start the Northwest Standard Scholarship Application - available Sept. 1 due Feb. 1
  • Search and apply for private scholarships
  • Apply for admission, if not already complete
  • Complete housing application and submit prepayment

October

  • Complete FAFSA - available Oct. 1
    • Missouri residents need to submit FAFSA by Feb. 1 for Missouri state programs
  • Complete the Northwest Standard Scholarship Application - due Feb. 1
  • Apply for private scholarships
  • Attend FAFSA Frenzy
  • Attend a Financial Aid Night or Northwest Night at an area high school

November & December

  • Complete FAFSA
    • Missouri residents need to submit FAFSA by Feb. 1 for Missouri state programs
  • Incoming Freshman will receive a financial aid award letter from Northwest beginning mid-December. Respond by accepting or declining financial aid offered on CatPAWS account
  • Respond to any verification request from The Financial Assistance Office to verify information submitted on FAFSA application (See forms to download)
  • Attend Financial Aid Night or Northwest Night at an area high school
  • Complete the Northwest Standard Scholarship Application - due Feb. 1
  • Search and apply for private scholarships

January

  • Complete FAFSA

  • Receive financial aid award letter from Northwest. Respond by accepting or declining financial aid offered on CatPAWS account
  • Search and apply for private scholarships

April

  • Respond to any verification request from The Financial Assistance Office to verify information submitted on FAFSA application (See forms to download)
  • Incoming Freshman will receive a financial aid award letter from Northwest. Respond by accepting or declining financial aid offered on CatPAWS account
  • Sign up for SOAR or Transfer Student Preregistration
  • Search and apply for private scholarships

May

  • Request final transcripts be sent to Northwest from high school or colleges attended
  • Transfer student recieve notification of financial aid award letter

June

  • Attend S.O.A.R. (Summer Orientation & Registration)
  • Submit private scholarships received from outside donors

July

  • Housing assignment sent
  • Submit employment application(s)
  • Submit private scholarships received from outside donors
  • University bills are sent. Federal aid processed will appear on the bill, but aid will disburse on the first day of classes

August

  • Financial aid credits to student's account first day of class
  • Attend Advantage
  • Submit private scholarships received from outside donors

Continuing Students' Timeline

September

  • Apply for Northwest Foundation scholarships - Standard Scholarship Application avaliable Sept. 1 due Feb. 1
  • Search and apply for private scholarship

October

  • Complete FAFSA - available October 1
    • Missouri residents need to submit FAFSA by Feb. 1 for Missouri state programs
  • Complete the Standard Scholarship Application - due Feb. 1
  • Search and apply for private scholarship

November & December

  • Complete FAFSA
    • Missouri residents need to submit FAFSA by Feb. 1 for Missouri state programs
  • Respond the any request from Northwest to verify information submitted on FAFSA application (See forms to download)

  • Complete the Standard Scholarship Application - due Feb. 1
  • Search and apply for private scholarships

January

  • Search and apply for private scholarships

May (following spring trimester grades)

  • Processing financial aid for continuing Northwest students to begin
  • Receive a Financial Aid Award letter. Respond by accepting or declining financial aid offered on CatPAWS account
  • Academic progress checked for federal aid - (See forms to download - guidelines/petition)
  • Renewal requirements checked for general institutional scholarships - See website www.nwmissouri.edu/FINAID/Continuing.htm

June

  • Receive a Financial Aid Award letter. Respond by accepting or declining financial aid offered on CatPAWS account

July

  • University bills are sent. Federal aid processed will appear on the bill but will not credit until the beginning of classes.

August

  • Final check of academic progress made. Federal aid removed for ineligible students (See forms to download)
  • Final check for renewable requirements made. Scholarships removed for ineligible students
  • Complete Exit Counseling if graduating and have received loans
