Do I need to send an audition CD or tape?

Will I need to audition for ensemble placement when I arrive for Camp?

For band participants, YES. Auditions will be held to determine chair placement in ensembles, and will consist of:

  1. Major scales (chosen by the person listening to your audition) with key signatures up to four flats;
  2. A full range chromatic scale (at the student's current ability level);
  3. A BRIEF excerpt (two phrases maximum) from a solo of the student's choosing;
  4. And a BRIEF excerpt (maximum two lines) from an etude of the student's choosing.

If your solo is slow and melodic, choose a technical etude that demonstrates your technical facility, or vice versa. (Younger and less experienced musicians may use material from a band method or technique book used in their regular school band class. Check with your band director to make sure the material you choose is appropriate!)

Choir participants will have a placement audition on Sunday during check-in time. You do not need to bring prepared material(s) for the placement audition.

How is my enrollment into camp determined?

Students are accepted into Summer Music Camp on a first come, first served basis.

I’m going to graduate from high school at the end of this school year. Can I register for Summer Music Camp?

Absolutely! We accept students who are currently in grades 7 through 12 for the 2021-22 academic school year.

I’m going to be entering 9th grade next fall. Do I choose Middle School Registration or High School Registration for Summer Music Camp?

Students register for the level that corresponds to their current (2021-22 academic school year) grade level. So, you would register for the MIDDLE SCHOOL level.

I just finished 6th grade and will be entering 7th grade next fall. Can I register for Summer Music Camp?

Unfortunately, no; our age requirements have changed. We now accept students who will have FINISHED 7th grade in the spring of 2021 (and are 13 years of age) through those who will have finished 12th grade in the spring of 2021.

What happens if there isn't room for me in Summer Music Camp by the time my application is processed?

You will be placed on our waiting list, and your payment will be refunded entirely if we are unable to include you for this summer’s camp. You can find more information about the waiting list below.

I registered a long time ago and I haven’t heard anything back yet. What should I do?

It is possible your application was not processed completely. You should have received an email to the address you included in your application. If you did not get a confirmation email, you may not have completed the registration process. Check to see if your payment processed, and contact Northwest to check on your registration status.

I like being a member of my choir/band at school, but I don’t sing/play very well…so I would probably not enjoy Summer Music Camp.

WRONG! Summer Music Camp is for middle school and high school students of ALL performance levels. In fact, you will likely discover that your interest and abilities in music have improved because you attended!
