Welcome to Northwest Missouri State University and to the Northwest Summer Music Camp! We hope this week is a fun and educational experience, and we are excited to have you on campus!

Ensemble auditions will take place Sunday afternoon during the registration time and as notated on the schedule.
Auditions for band students will be held to determine chair placement in ensembles, and will consist of:
If your solo is slow and melodic, choose a technical etude that demonstrates your technical facility, or vice versa. Younger and less experienced musicians may use material from a band method or technique book used in their regular school band class. Check with your band director to make sure the material you choose is appropriate!
Choir participants will have a placement audition on Sunday during check-in time as well. You do not need to bring prepared materials for the placement audition.
Students interested in performing in the jazz ensembles will need to audition on the instrument for which they would like to play in jazz ensemble. If possible, the student should prepare a piece from the jazz idiom for audition, however, the audition may also include sight-reading and/or improvisation.
Talent show auditions will take place on Monday after dinner. Students who are interested in performing on the student talent show should arrive prepared to audition. Please make sure to bring all necessary equipment for your talent show performance. (music, accompaniment CD, etc.) Please note, any accompaniment CD must be playable in a standard CD audio player.
Many of you reserved your student’s private lesson online this year.
Your students will not be able to receive calls/texts to their cell phones when they are in rehearsals or classes. They will also need to keep their cell phones off when they are part of an audience for a performance.
Northwest Missouri State University does not provide WiFi access for campers. Sorry for any inconvenience, but our approval and device set-up requirements make this impractical for those here for a short stay.

* Parents with students participating in BOTH Band and Choir should plan pick-up their luggage during any free time they have, between rehearsals, OR immediately after their final performance. Parents will need to contact their students to determine which ensembles they are performing in before the final day of camp. Students may NOT leave campus unless checked out from the camp office by a parent or guardian. Students participating only in the choirs (not playing in band) need to be checked out of the dorms by 11:00 a.m..
