Northwest Online Welcome Letter

Dear Student,

Thank you for registering with Northwest Online. This letter will provide you with information about how to access your online course. You may want to print or save this letter for future reference.

To login, please go to

On the left side of the page, you will see a "Login" button. Click this button and enter your login ID and your password.

Your login ID is your Northwest Student Number (S2-----). Your password is your Northwest ID number (919------).  If you are a returning online student, your password will be the same as last semester.

If you have any trouble logging into the system or do not remember your password, please contact theCanvas Support Hotline (Students) at or at 844.889.5674. Available 24 hours a day / 7 days a week, they will be able to help you with your login information as well as any technical troubles you may encounter.

If you are logging in for the first time, you will be asked to agree to the Northwest Online user agreement. Read this carefully and then indicate if you agree to the terms. If you agree, you will then be taken to your Personal Student Homepage. Here you will find the course(s) for which you have registered, the Orientation Course, the "My Profile" link (where you can update your password), and a link to the HelpDesk.

Textbook Information

Northwest Online students may order their textbooks, CD’s, and other course materials through the bookstore at 660.562.1246, or students may request to borrow materials from the University Textbook Services. This office may be contacted at  

Online students must pay for return shipping charges on borrowed materials. All textbooks, CD’s, and other course materials borrowed must be returned or postmarked by 2 p.m. of the day after the last scheduled final exam. A $5.00 per day fine begins after this date and can accumulate up to $50.00 plus the price of the textbook, CD’s, and/or course materials not returned.

Technical Requirements

On the Northwest Online homepage, you will see a Technical Requirements button on the left side of your page. Click on this link for further information about the basic technical requirements your computer system and browser must have in order to successfully access the System.  Please complete the Browser Test located at this site.

The Orientation Course

If you are a new online student, please take the time to complete the Student Orientation Course, which is a free course that will show you how Northwest Online classes operate. This course is available when you login to your Personal Student Homepage.  Please take this course before you call Technical Support with questions.

Changing Your Login Password

You can change your password on your Personal Student Homepage, which will then be automatically updated throughout the system. Your e-mail address may not be changed and will be entered into the system as your Northwest e-mail address.  All correspondence for online courses will be delivered to your Northwest e-mail account.  From your Personal Student Homepage, click on the link labeled "My Profile." You will see your current password encrypted in stars. Enter your new password (type carefully; remember, your password is case sensitive) and re-enter it on the line below. Now click "Update." The next time you login, you must use your new password. DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR LOGIN ID OR PASSWORD TO ANYONE.

Library, CatPAWS and Northwest Email Access

If you have not yet received your Northwest username and password, you may obtain it by emailing This username and password will provide you with access to various library services, CatPAWS, and Northwest Email access.  CatPAWS services include class schedules, transcripts, and current bills.
