Students entering in the summer or fall semester will receive an invitation to New Student Orientation in March or with the acceptance letter.

Students entering in the spring semester will receive an invitation to New Student Orientation in October.

What if I can’t attend a New Student Orientation date?

There are a number of New Student Orientation dates throughout the year to accommodate students. However, General Registration is offered just before classes start. Please note that freshmen should not plan to attend General Registration and should contact the Student Success Center with any scheduling issues at 660.562.1695.

Who should I bring with me to New Student Orientation?

You are welcome to bring your parents or family member if you would like. There is not a separate program for parents or family members, but many find the day informative and enjoyable.

There are several hotels in Maryville that can accommodate you and your family. We encourage you to make reservations early when you receive your New Student Orientation date to ensure your accommodations.

How long does New Student Orientation last?

New Student Orientation is scheduled from 10:00am-3:00pm, with an optional campus tour offered at 9:00am.

If I am a returning student, am I required to attend New Student Orientation?

If you are a student returning to Northwest after more than one year away, it is important for you to become reacquainted with the University and attend New Student Orientation.

If you have only been away from Northwest for 1-2 semesters, you will still need to attend advisement and registration during New Student Orientation, but we may be able to waive the orientation portion of the day. Contact or 660.562.1951 with any questions.
