Education: Academic Environment

Student Satisfaction

90% of first-year students at Northwest Missouri State University rate their experience as "good" or "excellent" and 87% of seniors said they would choose Northwest again if they could start over their college career.

The figures, which are among the findings in the 2012 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), represent a continuation of what Northwest students have been saying for several years. Northwest consistently outperforms its peers and national groups in student satisfaction.

Student-Faculty Ratio

Northwest students are not just a number. With a faculty-to-student ratio of 20:1, faculty know the names of their students and are invested in their success. The best and brightest faculty members are recruited to the University. Of the tenure and tenure-track faculty, 95% have the highest degree in their field.

University Seminar

Also, knowing that students come to Northwest at different levels, we designed the University Seminar program to introduce students to college life. First-year students develop an individualized plan designed to help them acquire skills and learn about resources that will help them succeed academically and socially.

Professional Advisory Teams

Each year, professional advisory teams meet with departments to communicate the types of skills employers are seeking in employees. The teams also provide opportunities for portfolio reviews, job shadowing, networking and internships.
