The Master of Science in Educational Leadership provides students a holistic approach to leadership while gaining professional knowledge, skills and disposition to help all students learn in a diverse and ever-changing world. Students can choose to focus on National Educational Leadership Preparation standards or the state of Missouri standards.

Northwest Online Professional (National Focus)

The National Educational Leadership Preparation standards focus is an online program that is designed for students seeking qualification to complete any assessment for certification requirements throughout the country. The program can be completed in as few as 12 months.

Northwest-Kansas City (Missouri Focus)

The state of Missouri focus is designed to prepare and certify students for the content and performance assessments required for certification in the state of Missouri. Students residing in the Kansas City area have the choice to take classes at Northwest-Kansas City or online. All other students will attend virtually through the web-based classes.

Admission Requirements

The School of Education admission process has specific requirements that students must meet to enroll in the Master of Science in Education in Educational Leadership online program. Non-Missouri students should determine whether this program fits the certification requirements for their state.

  • Cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 2.75
  • Students with a 2.50 to 2.74 GPA must have a 3.0 GPA on six hours of the required graduate coursework at Northwest in the major program where admission is requested

  • Documentation of one of the following:
    • 3.5 or higher on the analytical writing measure of the GRE
    • Successful completion of another master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with at least a 2.75 GPA
    • National Board Certification
    • Successful completion of nationally normed educational performance assessment (MoPTA, EdTPA)
    • Valid state-issued teaching certificate
    • Two years of previous teaching experience with a valid teaching certificate
    • Department Analytical writing assessment that is evaluated using a writing scoring guide based on the modified CUNY scales with a score of 4.0 or higher

Applicants for the Master of Science in Education in Educational Leadership online degree program must hold a baccalaureate degree with an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
