Valentine Osakwe and Zerryn Gines are Northwest students whose start-up business was recently featured in Forbes magazine, Free Tech For Black Founders Initiative Saves Startup Aiming To Help Small Businesses

Dr. Arghya Goswami, an assistant professor of geology, received an invitation to join the American Geophysical Union Bridge Program. The program provides resources to help the geosciences community learn more about inclusive practices for recruiting, admitting and retaining students in geosciences graduate programs.

Dr. Justin Mallett, assistant vice president of diversity and inclusion, will present to the Missouri Association of Registrar’s and Admissions Officers in October. Mallett will present about implicit bias and how it affects the admissions process.

Dr. Augustus Hallmon, assistant professor of recreation, authored four articles that were published in summer 2020:

  • “What to do with Interns During the COVID-19 Pandemic” (Missouri Parks and Recreation Magazine)
  • “Black Mothers’ Recreational Choices for their Children: A Critical Race Theory” (Annals of Leisure Research)
  • “A Profession-Based Approach to Teaching Contemporary Parks and Recreation Students” (SCHLOE: A Journal of Leisure Studies and Recreation Education)
  • “The Intersection of Leisure and Racial Socialization to Promote Positive Practices” (Positive Sociology of Leisure)
