Athletes of the Week: Sarah Hayes and Joel Osborn

Northwest freshman golfer Sarah Hayes and junior quarterback Joel Osborn have been named Northwest Female and Male Athletes of the Week for the period ended Sept. 16.

Hayes shot a program-record 87 Saturday to lead Northwest to its first-ever tournament win at the Graceland Invitational. The Bearcats bested Avila and host-Graceland with a team score of 362. Hayes placed third in the individual race.

Hayes fired a 95 at the Bearcat Invitational Thursday at Mozingo Lake Golf Course in the first-ever varsity meet for the women’s golf team. Northwest finished second of five teams with a team score of 373. Hayes tied for 13^th overall.

Osborn, making his first career start, threw for 287 yards and two touchdowns to lead the 11th-ranked Bearcats to a 44-20 win over Missouri Western in front of a record crowd Saturday night at Spratt Stadium.

Osborn led the Bearcats on four consecutive touchdown drives to start the game. His first touchdown pass, a 13-yard strike to high school teammate Greg Applegate, gave Northwest a 28-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. His second was a 7-yard pass to LaRon Council early in the fourth quarter.
