Athletes of the Week: Anna O'Brien and Ben Chappell

Anna O'Brien Ben Chappell

Northwest junior cross country runner Anna O'Brien and sophomore cross country runner Ben Chappell have been named Northwest Female and Male Athletes of the Week for the period ended Sept. 9. Both finished in first place at the Bearcat Invitational to help lead Northwest to victory.

O'Brien won the women's 5K run with a time of 19:36.0, tops in the field of 35 competitors. Teammate Karah Spader finished second with a time of 19:58.6. The Bearcats swept the first seven places at the meet and bested College of St. Mary and Peru State.

Chappell topped 25 student-athletes with his four-mile time of 22:31.1. Teammate T.R. Pursell finished second with a time of 23:00.3. Both were running their first races for Northwest. The Bearcats swept the first five places for a team score of 15. Southwestern Community College finished second with a score of 45.
