Northwest sophomore outside hitter Alicia Johnson has been named Northwest Female Athlete of the Week for the period ended Sept. 2.
Johnson was selected to the St. Edward’s Classic All-Tournament Team and helped lead the Bearcats to a third-place finish with a 2-2 record.
Johnson concluded the Classic with three double-doubles (kills, digs) and has five double-doubles this season. She tied for the team lead with 44 kills in four matches and added 18 assists, eight aces and 50 digs. Johnson also assisted on four blocks.
Johnson hit a season-best .417 (11-1-24) during Northwest's three-game sweep of Southwest Oklahoma State. She followed with a team-best 13 kills in a loss to St. Edward’s. Johnson hit .275 in four tournament matches and raised her season percentage to .183. Her 14 aces this season are second to Katie Swenson’s 16.
Northwest (4-4) continues play this week by hosting the Bearcat Classic Friday and Saturday. It’s the Bearcats first home tournament since 1994. Northwest opens Friday against South Dakota at 1 p.m.
