Meet Karen Vogel

Admissions Specialist Karen Vogel grew up in Independence and graduated with a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Northwest in 1989. She met her husband, Brad, at Northwest, and the couple has three children: Rachael, 15, Katie, 13, and Dylan, 11.

What is your favorite thing to do on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon?

Spend time with my family.

What would you do if you won the lottery?

I would pay off my bills, put money away for my kids for college, help friends and family and take a vacation.

What is the most powerful historical event you remember or have witnessed?

The Oklahoma City bombing, 9/11.

What is your favorite time of the year, and why?

My favorite times of year are spring and fall. I love all the wonderful colors.

What is something you’ve learned in the past year?

You have to have patience, and you have to be understanding when dealing with people. You need to listen carefully to them.

What motivates you?

My faith, my friends and my family.

What musical ability (singing or instrumental) do you have or wish you had?

My children and my husband all play instruments. I wish I had that talent.

When cooking, what is your “specialty?”

I like to bake: pies, cakes, cookies ...

Who on campus has most impacted your life?

One of my very good friends. ... She knows who she is and how much I truly appreciate all she has done for me and my family.

What is on your desk?

Pictures of my family, papers, folders, a computer, a calendar, a phone and the normal office supplies.
