Owens Library makes audiobooks available online

The B.D. Owens Library has unveiled a new eAudiobooks collection that is available to Northwest students, faculty and staff.

Frank Baudino, head librarian for information services, said the only thing patrons need is an Internet-connected computer to access more than 2,000 of the latest audio books available online. The service is being provided at no charge to users.

Most patrons wishing to create an eAudiobooks account must do so from a computer on campus. However, other arrangements are available for students enrolled at Northwest’s academic centers in Liberty and St. Joseph. To create an account, go to http://www.netlibrary.com/CreateAccount.aspx.

To check out an eAudiobook -- either on campus or from a remote location -- log on to your account and select a title at http://www.netlibrary.com/Centers/AudiobookCenter, then download it to your computer.

Once the book is downloaded, it can be listened to directly from a PC or loaded onto an MP3 player compatible with Windows Media .wma files.

Downloading and transfer directions are available at http://www.nwmissouri.edu/library/owens/audiobooks.htm.

Patrons can download up to ten eAudiobooks at a time. Once the checkout limit is reached, users cannot download additional files until a currently downloaded eAudiobook automatically expires. The checkout period is 21 days.

Listeners can renew eAudiobook files online during the original checkout period. Only one renewal allowed per checkout.

Five MP3 players are available for checkout at the Multimedia Support Desk on the library’s second floor. View MP3 player availability by going to the library catalog (http://towers.missouri.edu/search~S4), selecting title search and typing MP3 player. Player checkout is for 21 days with no renewals.
