Bearcat Bookstore unveils new Web site

Bearcat Bookstore Manager Scott Yocom is urging students, alumni, faculty and staff to check out the store's new Web site at http://nwmissouri.bncollege.com.

The redesigned page is simpler to use, Yocom said, and offers customers, especially students, a number of new services, including online textbook purchasing and a simple electronic form that indicates what used books the store is currently seeking to buy back.

Other features allow students to create a customized textbook list by entering the term, department, course and section of each course taken. The site also lets faculty members use password-protected accounts to turn in book orders online, receive advance notice on special offers and promotions and check their order history and status information.

Additional buttons across the top of the bookstore homepage take customers to pages where they can shop for Northwest apparel, gift items and office supplies. The homepage also displays a calendar with announcements about sales, promotions and special hours related to Bearcats games and other special events.

Using their 919 number, students and University employees can now use their Bearcat Cards to pay for bookstore purchases online. In addition, the site is set up to accept Barnes & Noble gift cards and major credit cards.

Yocom said one of the things he is most excited about is the site's expanded capability for displaying clothing and gift items. Every time new items are placed into inventory, he explained, the site is automatically updated to include photos and merchandise descriptions.

"Our feedback from alumni indicates that they want more products made available online," Yocom said. "Now we have the ability to do that."

The Bearcat Bookstore's next major promotion is the annual Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day, which takes place 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19. All University employees will receive an extra 10 percent off their normal 20 percent discount on most store merchandise, excluding textbooks.

In the past, Appreciation Day discounts applied only to in-store purchases. This year the full 30 percent discount is available for staff Bearcat Card purchases keyed in on the day of the sale. The offer does not include online purchases made with a credit or gift card.

For those who prefer to do their shopping in-store, the event will include refreshments and a chance to win door prizes.

Part of the Barnes & Noble chain, the Bearcat Bookstore is located on the first floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union.
