The Maryville branch of the American Association of University Women will explore the issues of sexual assault prevention and protection at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct .4, in the J.W. Jones Student Union boardroom. The meeting is free and open to all women.
Stacy Wiedmer, project director of Northwest's Lighthouse Project, will present the first part of the program.
The Lighthouse Project is a federally funded grant program that seeks to eliminate violence against women on the Northwest campus and throughout the Maryville area. Wiedmer will provide information on the goals of the program and various initiatives undertaken by the University in support of sexual assault victims.
The second part of the program will feature Campus Safety Officer Kristina Martinez, who frequently gives self-defense instruction to members of the campus community and holds certification as a rape aggression defense teacher.
Those attending the meeting are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing.
