New databases expand library e-text sources

The electronic reference and full e-text resources available to Northwest students, faculty and staff continued to expand this year with the introduction of a number of new databases.

Last year, e-book provider Ebrary added nearly 6,000 titles to its Academic Complete collection, which is available through the Owens Library Web site. That brought the total number of electronic volumes available to library users to more than 30,000 in combination with the massive Gale Virtual Reference Library.

In 2007-'08 students have access to even more on-line research options, including ten new databases designed to provide references, summaries, reports comparisons and an increasing number of full-text electronic manuscripts. Topics covered run the gamut from the hard sciences to the humanities and the arts.

To encourage use of the new databases, Owens Library staff have planned a series of workshops for September and October during which students can learn to get the most out of these new information sources. The workshop schedule appears below. All sessions take place in Owens Library 231.

To register for a workshop online, go to www.nwmissouri.edu/library/workshops/Register.aspx.
