Sculptor's work is final art season show

The sculpture of Gail Simpson will be on exhibit at The Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Gallery in the spring. The show opens at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 31, with the artist’s slide lecture. The exhibit runs through Friday, April 25. The slide lecture will be held in Room 244.

Gallery viewing hours are from 6 until 9 p.m. Monday; 1 until 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 1:30 until 5 p.m. on Sunday. There is no admission charge.

Simpson strives to create artwork “that engages the viewer in a lively and intelligent manner, to create works that have compelling sculptural presence while coexisting harmoniously with the surrounding environment.” According to the Northwest Department of Art, “She has characterized her works as embodying excellent craftsmanship, a strong sculptural profile with a slight hint of humor.”

On faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Simpson holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and formerly taught at Illinois State University, the University of Washington and Western Washington University.
