Dr. Robert Foster steered Northwest through era of growth and challenge

Dr. Robert P. Foster, seventh president of Northwest Missouri State University, died early Monday, March 10, in Kansas City. He was 90.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, Northwest President Dean L. Hubbard officiating.
A reception will following from 2-4 p.m. in the First Ladies Dining Room on the third floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union. This is a change from the original announcement that the reception would take place at the Alumni House.
Foster served as University president from 1964 until his retirement in 1977, when he was named president emeritus.
During his years as at the helm, Foster was instrumental in securing nearly $15 million for capital improvements and in the creation of the Northwest Foundation, which has since raised tens of millions of dollars in support of the University. MORE

The University community will soon have the opportunity to fight back after a December ice storm that downed nearly 80 trees and snapped off hundreds of limbs and branches across the Northwest campus.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to take part in Project Plant-A-Tree at 2 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the Memorial Bell Tower. The event will be part ceremony and part work detail, as volunteers plant new trees to replace those that were lost. MORE
