Siblings bring piano mastery to Northwest

5 browns med   Northwest’s final Encore performing arts series presentation of 2007 will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, when The 5 Browns bring their keyboard mastery to the Performing Arts Center's Mary Linn Auditorium. 
   Each of these five brothers and sisters, all still in their 20s, is a virtuoso concert pianist trained at New York’s Juilliard School. Featured on "Oprah," "60 Minutes" and "Good Morning America," The 5 Browns' style, youth and talent have broadened the appeal of classical music for audiences around the world. 
   Tickets cost $20 for orchestra seats, $18 for balcony seats and $12 for children under 12. Purchase tickets by calling 660.562.1212 or in person Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at the Student Services Center on the first floor of the Administration Building. MORE 

Hydroponic produce takes the dirt out of gardening for Northwest ag students

lettuce small   So who says farmers need dirt? Certainly not a group of agriculture students at Northwest who are currently wrapping up an experiment using hydroponically grown lettuce.
   Hydroponics is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions instead of soil. When the required nutrients are introduced into a plant's water supply artificially, soil is no longer required for the plants to thrive. MORE

   The Northwest chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority will host a Special Olympics pancake fundraiser from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Maryville Community Center.
   Cost is $6. Menu is pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee served by Chris Cakes.
