Dr. David Easterla
An article by Dr. David Easterla, distinguished university professor of biology, titled “A Butchered Jefferson’s Ground Sloth (Megalonyx jeffersonii) by Paleo-Man in Taylor County, Iowa” appears in the “Central States Archaeological Journal” (January 2009, Vol. 56, No. 1).
The article describes a hip bone and sacrum of an extinct ground sloth bearing chop marks inflicted by prehistoric humans. Easterla acquired the fossil after it was found on the West Fork of the 102 River.
Jefferson’s Ground Sloth has been extinct for about 10,000 years
