Dr. Jody Strauch, Laura Widmer attend high school journalism convention
Dr. Jody Strauch, assistant professor and chair of the Department of Mass Communication, and Laura Widmer, assistant professor of mass communication, recently attended the National High School Journalism Convention in St. Louis.
The department manned a booth in the convention’s exhibit hall, and two Student Ambassadors from the department, Chris Lee and Harrison Sissel, assisted with recruiting efforts.
Hosted by the Journalism Educators Association and the National Scholastic Press Association, the convention draws more than 5,000 high school students from across the nation. Strauch reported that a number of conference participants visiting the Northwest booth indicated they were already planning to attend the University or had decided to do so after speaking with Lee and Sissel.
The Department of Mass Communication also sponsored a luncheon at the convention attended by about 30 advisors from the four-state region.
