Dr. Stephen Town
Dr. Stephen Town, professor of music, has been named a Conducting Fellow for Chorus America's prestigious a cappella conducting master class, which takes place in October in Minneapolis and Northfield, Minn.
Town is one of 15 professional conductors from the United States selected through a competitive process that included submission of recorded rehearsals and performances, references and other materials.
During the workshop, Town will conduct the highly regarded choral ensemble VocalEssence as well as the famous St. Olaf College Choir. He will also participate in intensive conducting sessions and discuss music and conducting with a number of well-known contemporary composers, including Dominick Argento, Libby Larsen and Stephen Paulus.
Town, who directs the Tower Choir, Northwest's premier choral group, is slated to receive the Distinguished Faculty Award this fall from the Northwest Alumni Association. His other professional distinctions include teaching at Imperial College, London University, under the sponsorship of the Missouri London Program and an invitation earlier this year to conduct at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
