Dr. Mary Shepherd
Dr. Mary Shepherd, associate professor of mathematics and statistics, attended MathFest in August in San Jose, Calif. MathFest is the summer meeting of the Mathematical Association of America.
During the conference, Shepherd presented a paper titled , "Symmetry Groups, Subgroups and Cosets in Counted Cross Stitch." She also displayed three pieces of counted cross stitch in the MAA Special Interest Group arts booth.
In addition to attending a number of presentations and workshops, Shepherd was elected to the organization's budget and audit committees, which means she will serve as a member of the MAA's executive board for two years beginning in Jan. 2008.
