Student body elects Homecoming royalty

The Northwest student body crowned its 2009 Homecoming royalty Thursday, Oct. 22, following opening night of the annual Variety Show in the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts.

This year’s queen is Hollie Mohi, a senior elementary education/deaf studies major from Columbia who was sponsored by Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Mohi is a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, Order of Omega, Student Ambassadors, Mortar Board, Cardinal Key and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Following graduation, Mohi plans to teach third or fourth grade and incorporate sign language into the classroom.

Joe Masciovecchio, a senior physical education major from Liberty, was elected Homecoming king. He was sponsored by Phi Mu sorority. Masciovecchio is a member Tau Kappa Epsilon, and following graduation, he plans to teach elementary school in Des Moines, Iowa.

During their reign as Homecoming royalty, Mohi and Masciovecchio will ride in the Homecoming parade Saturday, Oct. 24, before being introduced at the football game between the Bearcats and the Washburn University Ichabods that afternoon.

The remaining nominees for king and queen now become members of the 2009 Northwest Homecoming court. They are:

Erin Holm: Senior marketing major with a minor in public relations from Liberty
Organizations: President of Student Senate and Phi Mu, Student Ambassadors, Mortar Board, Blue Key, Cardinal Key, Delta Mu Delta
Plans: To attend graduate school at Northwest or a larger university and to travel
Sponsor: Tau Kappa Epsilon

Julie Ray: Senior public relations major from Concordia
Organizations: President of Panhellenic Council and Order of Omega, Alpha Sigma Alpha vice president, Greek Week, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Cardinal Key, Mortar Board, Student Ambassadors, Up Til Dawn, and serves in the United States Army Reserves
Plans: To work for a marketing/communications company
Sponsor: Interfraternity Council

Kara Siefker: Senior sociology and Spanish major from Eagle, Neb.
Organizations: President of Alpha Sigma Alpha, Order of Omega, Student Ambassadors, ESL Department Conversation Partner
Plans: To teach English as a second language abroad in a Spanish-speaking country for a year

Kim VanNordstrand: Senior Geographic Information Systems major from Council Bluffs, Iowa
Organizations: Student Senate Treasurer and Sigma Psi Sigma treasurer, Alpha Chi, Phi Eta Sigma, Up Til Dawn and Campus-Community Emergency Response Team
Plans: To attend graduate school at Northwest after completing her undergraduate degree.
