Encore’s ‘I Love a Piano’ features 64 Irving Berlin classics

“I Love a Piano,” a musical journey spanning seven decades of American history as seen through the eyes of Irving Berlin, is Northwest’s next Encore performing arts series production. It begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, in the Mary Linn Auditorium at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts.

Using 64 of Berlin’s songs, “I Love a Piano” captures the spirit of America from the ragtime rhythms of the early 20th century through the 1920s and ’30s. The performance also covers the sentimental songs that inspired a nation during two World Wars to the innocent optimism of the 1950s. Classics include “White Christmas,” “God Bless America,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz” and “There’s No Business Like Show Business.”

Tickets cost $25 (orchestra) and $23 (balcony). Children’s tickets are $15 and $13, and Northwest faculty and staff can purchase discounted orchestra tickets for $23. Admission is free for Northwest students with a valid Bearcat ID card. Tickets may be purchased at the Student Services Center on the first floor of the Administration Building or at the box office prior to the show.

Optional valet parking is available by making a free-will donation to Northwest’s Alternative Spring Break program. Patrons can have their cars parked across the street from the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts and returned to the main entrance after the show.
