
Mary Throener
Mary Throener, Northwest’s director of human resources management, was recently sworn in as president of the Missouri College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (MCUPA-HR).
The organization is affiliated with CUPA-HR, which serves 10,000 human resources professionals working at more than more than 1,600 institutions of higher learning nationwide.
National membership includes 88 percent of all doctoral institutions, 72 percent of all master’s institutions, 46 percent of all bachelor’s institutions and more than 450 community colleges and specialized schools.
Both the Missouri chapter and the national organization seek to provide global leadership in higher education human resources management by offering essential knowledge, resources and connections that enhance individual and institutional quality.
As president of MCUPA-HR, Throener will serve a two-year term (2008-2010) at the head of an eight-member executive board consisting of herself, a vice president, secretary, treasurer, past president and three members-at-large.
There are currently 38 member colleges and universities in Missouri embracing 119 human resource professionals.
Throener began her human resources career at Northwest in January 1998 having previously served as a member of the Department of Marketing and Management faculty. She was the University’s first student employment coordinator and has also worked as a Career Services placement specialist and a graduate assistant to President Dean L. Hubbard.
In addition to her career at Northwest, where she earned two degrees, including an MBA, Throener has held positions in banking, business and education.
