Northwest’s Department of Chemistry and Physics will hold public stargazing nights from 9-11 p.m. each Saturday (weather permitting) through the end of July at the Mozingo Outdoor Education Recreation Area east of Maryville.
Open to everyone, these free programs feature information about the night sky and assistance in locating constellations, planets and other celestial objects.
Hosted by Bearcat Observatory Coordinator Chris Shelton, stargazing nights give participants an opportunity to view stars and planets in a low-light pollution environment using the University’s 14-inch, research grade Celestron telescope.
Bearcat Observatory is located about six miles east of Maryville just north of Highway 136. From Maryville, turn left into the recreation area from 136 and follow the signs.
