The Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs has awarded reaffirmation of accreditation to Northwest’s Melvin and Valorie Booth College of Business and Professional Studies.

The reaccreditation applies to undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the Booth College, which received a certificate of accreditation at ACBSP's annual conference June 22 in New Orleans.

ACBSP’s Baccalaureate/Graduate Board of Commissioners granted the 10-year reaccreditation without conditions and with minimal recommendations for improvement. The board especially commended the Booth College for using the Educational Testing Service’s Major Field Test to improve undergraduate business programs. It also commented favorably on the use of Northwest’s Culture of Quality seven-step process as a planning tool.

“We are extremely pleased with the board’s findings, which recognize and validate the outstanding work carried out by our dedicated faculty,” said Dr. Tom Billesbach, Booth College dean. “Reaccreditation also reflects on the fine work accomplished by our students as they acquire valuable skills and prepare for successful careers following graduation.”

Billesbach offered special thanks to Dr. Michael Wilson, associate professor of accounting, economics and finance, and Dr. Chi Lo Lim, associate professor of marketing and management, who helped compile the college’s accreditation report.

ACBSP Executive Director Douglas Viehland said the Booth College “has shown its commitment to teaching excellence by participating in the accreditation process, achieving accreditation and continuing the process of quality improvement.  This accreditation is evidence of Northwest Missouri State’s commitment to quality business programs."

Accreditation by ACBSP certifies that an institution’s teaching and learning processes meet rigorous educational standards. Though ratification of accreditation covers a ten-year period, business schools must continually reaffirm their commitment to academic excellence through periodic written reports.  Founded in 1988, ACBSP comprises more than 490 member institutions.
