Dr. Nancy Zeliff
Northwest's Beta chapter of Pi Omega Pi, a national honor society for business education majors, was recently named the No. 2 POP chapter in the nation.
Dr. Nancy Zeliff, professor of computer science and information systems and Beta chapter faculty sponsor, accepted the award at the National Business Education Awareness Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
During the conference, Zeliff also received a distinguished service award in recognition of her 20 years of service as Beta chapter sponsor.
Judges selected the chapter for national honors after evaluating a number of initiatives, including an alumni newsletter, chapter Web page, a podcasting project and involvement with high school students during Future Business Leaders of America events on the Northwest campus.
The Northwest organization is the oldest active Pi Omega Pi chapter in the country and has been listed in the national top-ten in each of Zeliff's years as sponsor.
Current Beta chapter student officers are: Sarah Jackson, president, Hamilton; Tiffany Whipple, vice president, Maryville; April Miller, secretary-treasurer, Allendale; Brook Shultz, Unionville, and Kara Gibson, Ridgeway, reporters; and Melanie Rouse, Savannah, webmaster.
