Born in Phoenix, Ariz., Bentley moved to Nashville in his early 20s and struggled for several years before being signed by Capitol Records in 2003, the same year he recorded his first hit single, "What Was I Thinkin,'" which reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country charts. The song earned pride of place on his self-titled debut album, which went platinum, as did the follow-up effort, 2005's “Modern Day Drifter.”

Since the beginning of his recording career, Bentley has charted ten singles in the U.S., five of which reached No. 1. He has also recorded four studio albums, including three major-label efforts for Capitol. The most recent, "Long Trip Alone,” was released in late 2006 and has been certified gold. It produced two No. 1 singles: "Every Mile a Memory" and "Free and Easy (Down the Road I Go)."

Bentley was introduced to country music as a teenager after a friend introduced him to an album by Hank Williams Jr. album. "That moment really changed my whole perspective,” he said. “Everything just clicked. I just knew I loved country music."

On tour almost constantly since 2003, Bentley won the 2005 CMA Horizon Award and was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry that same year. He is currently the Opry’s second youngest member after Josh Turner.

In 2006, Bentley filmed a DVD release, “Live and Loud at the Fillmore in Denver,” which came out last year.
