Jeffrey Ly

Jeffrey Ly, at age 13 one of the nation’s most gifted young pianists, will perform at Northwest at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in Charles Johnson Theater in a solo program featuring works by Schumann, Horowitz, Chopin, Rimsky-Korsakov and other major composers.

The free concert is being sponsored by a Northwest Culture of Quality Grant and the University’s Department of Music.

Hailed as a prodigy since beginning piano studies at age 5 at Maryland’s European Academy of Music and Art, Jeffrey has already performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and twice at the White House.

At age 8, Jeffrey performed his first solo concert at the Polish Embassy in Washington, D.C., and at age 10, he played Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor, Opus 16, with orchestra, at the Norwegian Embassy, also in the nation’s capital. Subsequent performances have included the Hungarian Embassy, where he presented a program of major works by Franz Liszt.

The recipient of numerous international prizes and gold medals, Jeffrey won first place in the 2003 Bartók-Kabalevsky-Prokofiev International Piano Competition. Frequently profiled in newspapers and magazines, he has also made a number of appearances on international and national television programs, and his playing can be heard on many CDs.
