UNIT 5, a gallery located at 1920 Wyandotte Street in Kansas City’s Crossroads Art District, will showcase work by Northwest art students this month.

The exhibit opens Friday, March 7, and is part of the district’s monthly First Friday promotion. UNIT 5 will host a reception for the artists from 6-9 p.m. that evening. Admission is free and open to the public.

Laura Kukkee, assistant professor of art at Northwest, said this is the first Crossroads exhibit to feature the creations of undergraduates enrolled in the University’s bachelor of fine arts program, which serves students specializing in sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, drawing, painting, photography, graphic design and interactive digital media.

Works to be exhibited include paintings, drawings, prints, photos, ceramics and sculpture. Eleven students are represented in the gallery’s Northwest BFA program survey. All art is available for sale.

For additional information, call the gallery at 816.841.5500 or go to www.unit5gallery.com

The Crossroads Arts District is a historic neighborhood near downtown Kansas City centered at approximately 19th Street and Baltimore Avenue between the central business district and Crown Center.

Crossroads has grown to become the city's main fine arts district, and numerous galleries are located in its renovated warehouses and industrial buildings. The area is also home to numerous restaurants, live music venues, shops and studios.

Galleries in the district traditionally open new shows during the evening on the first Friday of each month, and First Friday has become one of the region's most popular art events.
