Steve Holt
Steve Holt, director of the Northwest Small Business Development Corporation office in Chillicothe, recently received the state-level Silver Award for 2007 at the annual SBDC Showcase in Jefferson City.
The award was made on the basis of a scorecard listing five measurement categories comprising a total of ten core performance elements: impact (sales, investments, jobs, businesses started), quantity (training, counseling), quality (training, counseling), stakeholder impact (third-party endorsements) and revenue (revenue).
SBDC Showcases combine training, client recognition, staff recognition (Gold and Silver awards) and interaction with state legislators about achievements in small business support and advocacy over the past 12 months.
On the client side in Holt’s north-central Missouri service area, Mike Carter, owner and founder of Midwest Customs in Carrollton, a specialty automotive shop, received the Showcase’s Rising Star Award.
Winning the Silver Award was Holt’s second major SBDC recognition in six months. Last September he received the Star Award from the national Association of Small Business Development Centers, which is given to the top-performing SBDC specialist in each state.
Holt, a native of Trenton, became director of the Chillicothe SBDC in early 2005. His primary responsibility is to provide counseling and training services to entrepreneurs and owners of existing small businesses across an area that includes Carroll, Livingston, Grundy, Mercer, Caldwell and Daviess counties.
SBDCs are attached to institutions of higher learning throughout the United States, and their primary mission is to create economic impact through counseling and training for businesses with fewer than 500 employees.
Northwest SBDC comprises three offices that each fall under the direction of Northwest Missouri State University and the University of Missouri Extension in cooperation with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The Northwest region covers 17 northwest Missouri counties and also maintains offices in Maryville and St. Joseph.
