Activities for kids mark Girls & Women in Sports Day

Northwest’s observance of National Girls and Women in Sports Day will take place Saturday, Feb. 16, in the Student Recreation Center on campus. Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m., and activities start at 11 a.m.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day is an annual celebration that recognizes female athletic participation and achievement. For more information about this special day, go to http://member.aahperd.org/ngwsdcentral.

Each February, Northwest’s the Northwest Athletics hosts a special clinic for area youth in recognition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The Northwest women’s teams, Bearcat Steppers and Bearcat Cheerleaders will all be on hand to instruct clinic participants in basic fundamentals related to various sports.

The event is free and open to the public. Girls and boys ages 4-10 will receive one-on-one interaction with athletes, free refreshments, goodie bags and prizes. 

Pre-registered participants receive a free ticket to the women's basketball game beginning at 1:30 p.m. that day in Bearcat Arena.

The overall goal of Northwest’s participation in National Girls and Women in Sports Day is to increase awareness about women’s sports and other athletic activities available at the University and to promote healthy lifestyles.
