Northwest’s Department of Chemistry and Physics will host an evening of stargazing from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Bearcat Observatory, which is located at the Mozingo Outdoor Education Recreation Area east of Maryville.
Open to everyone, the free program will feature information about the winter sky and assistance in locating constellations, planets and other celestial objects.
The evening, hosted by Observatory Coordinator Chris Shelton, will offer participants an opportunity to view the night sky in a low-light pollution environment using the University’s 14-inch, research grade Celestron telescope.
Bearcat Observatory is located about six miles east of Maryville north of Highway 136. From Maryville, turn north into the recreation area off 136 and follow the signs.
