Jackie Elliott has assumed cabinet-level responsibilities as Northwest’s vice president for student affairs.

Elliott formerly served as associate vice president in the Office of Student Affairs and replaces Jerry Wilmes, M.D., who has resumed his former position as the University’s full-time medical director.

Wilmes had filled both the medical and Student Affairs positions since summer 2006 following the resignation of Dr. Kent Porterfield. Elliott came to Northwest at about the same time from Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kan.

Before joining Northwest’s administrative team, Elliott was BCCC’s dean of student development, having previously worked there as interim dean of developmental education, interim dean of academic affairs and director of student services.

She began her higher education career in 1989 as director of student and academic services at Highland (Kan.) Community College before going on to direct the Upward Bound program at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.

Elliott holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and English from Concordia University in Seward, Neb., and a master’s degree in English from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan. She is currently completing an Ed.D. in educational leadership and administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In addition to her administrative experience, Elliott has taught courses in English and communication.

"We are fortunate in having Jackie assume this important cabinet-level post,” said Northwest President Dean L. Hubbard. “Under her leadership, Student Affairs will continue to provide programs and services of the highest quality while maintaining Northwest's superb level of student success."

The Office of Student Affairs administers a wide variety of services and programs, including residential life, student activities, campus organizations, student government, international and multicultural programs, volunteerism, judicial affairs and student wellness. The unit also oversees support services such as textbook distribution and campus dining.
