Recipients of the Missouri Legislative Internship work in the office of a state representative or senator from early January, when the new legislative session begins, until mid-May.
Those accepted into the program, which is open to all majors, assist lawmakers and their staffs in analyzing and tracking legislation; writing press releases; tracking press coverage and assisting constituents. They also attend hearings and work sessions and have opportunities to network with government service professionals.
Past interns have used their experience in Jefferson City as a springboard to careers in public relations, law, communications, politics and government.
Participants retain full-time status as Northwest students while in Jefferson City and can receive up to 12 credit hours in political science and Missouri politics. Tuition costs are deducted from a $3,000 stipend.
Applications for 2009 Missouri Legislative Internships are available through the Office of Career Services, Administration 130. Call Career Services at 660.562.1250 (ext. 1250 on campus) for more information.
