Northwest student Morgan Sobbe, 21, experienced what it was like to be a university president on Monday, Nov. 12, after winning the Mortar Board honor society's annual president for a day drawing.
Sobbe, a junior education major who graduated from Park Hill High School in Kansas City, spent the day meeting with senior University administrators and attending to other presidential tasks.
She is the daughter of Bill and Robin Sobbe of Kansas City.
Meanwhile, Northwest President Dean L. Hubbard, wearing a Bearcats baseball cap and windbreaker, attended Sobbe's classes in mathematics and multiculturalism in education.
Appointments on Sobbe's calendar included sessions with Mary Ann Lowary, vice president for university relations; Jackie Elliott, associate vice president for student affairs; Orrie Covert, vice president for university advancement; and Mary Throener, director of human resources.
In her more usual role as a student, Sobbe is active in the Northwest chapter of Phi Mu sorority, works at the Student Recreation Center and serves as a Bearcat Ambassador with the Athletics Department.
Mortar Board is a national honor society for upper-level students that recognizes outstanding scholarship, leadership and service. To be considered for membership, students must have completed their junior year, have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 and demonstrate leadership and service as a member of the University community.
The president for a day drawing raises funds for society activities and programs.
